My late teacher Ellis Peterson used to insist that one should "pay himself first" (see article), in the sense that a person is allotted a certain amount of energy each day and should put some of the energy in the beginning of the day toward oneself.
The meridian clock (shown in previous post) is also the arrangement of Yin Yang House's acupoint database. As mentioned in an earlier post, the circulation of energy through the channels is an important consideration for martial artists as well as herbalists and acupuncturists. For instance, in the consideration of illness it can be beneficial for diagnosis to observe when symptoms occur (what time of day). Similar logic has it that treatment can be most beneficial at certain times and that attacks can be most devastating when aligned with the circulation of energy. Although the application of this theory in martial arts is often not found today, it is quite possible that the continuously increasing interest in acupuncture will help to revive this understanding in martial arts, which the Bubishi gave so much importance to.
