These herbs have intrigued me for a long time because of their attractive flowers; even more since I learn of the possibility that Ashwaganda may actually be a Convolvulus species. Ashwaganda, the revered "Ginseng of Ayurveda", is usually believed to be a Nightshade (Solanaceae) - Withania somnifera - but it is possible it is a Bindweed of Convolvulaceae (neither of which is the Ginseng family (Araliaceae).
I just spotted Bindweed (Calystegia silvatica) in flower today for the first time. |
